So today I started my second set of summer classes at Western. My ECON class thank goodness seems like it will be much more understandable and structured than the one I took last five weeks. Plus, I am so excited because one of my friends from high school is in my class! I haven't seen him in forever and this is the first time I've had someone from high school in one of my Western classes. I also will be taking a calculus class two nights a week. Tonight's impression was positive. My professor seems very down to earth and very willing to help if needed. He explains the material in such detail which is great because Lord knows I need it in math. Another guy I know is in that class too!
I hope the next week, however, goes along the lines of my first day because I will have a VERY hectic schedule. Starting Saturday I will be babysitting a set of twins for a week on top of finishing my last week at Tech, plus taking my classes at Western. I just hope and pray, for my sanity, that I don't get bogged down with too much work. After next week I'll be fine - getting through then will be a test. I'm sure I can handle it though. The kids aren't bad AT ALL plus they'll be at daycare the majority of the day and all I have in my Tech class is a PowerPoint presentation and one test.
But I better get to bed since it's back to class tomorrow morning. Hope everyone has had a great week and enjoyed your Wednesday night!!

Valhalla
But other than that, nothing else exciting went on today. I think I'm just going to watch the College Baseball World Series for the rest of the night with my dad. So I guess I'll get off here and watch some baseball boys before going to bed :)
Hope everyone has a great night!!! Don't forget Father's Day tomorrow!!! hah

New Opportunities
Has it really been since Memorial Day since I last wrote something?!? I've been so busy working, shadowing, and doing school work that they've taken over my blogging time! I can't continue to let that happen. I feel so much better after writing things down - such a relief.
The past few days I've been feeling kind of down on myself for some reason. I have no idea why, but I've just felt weird about everything. I feel like I've been stuck in this time warp where everything's the same old thing with the same old routine. It's an awful feeling not gonna lie.
But yesterday Erin, the banquet manager I'm shadowing, texted me and asked if I could meet with her today to discuss an opportunity she had for me and told me I was doing a really good job since I'd been with her. I had no idea what I was going into today so I was a little nervous. When I got to HVCC today, Erin told me her and Patrick wanted to talk to me. Before she could tell me, Patrick came into her office and was like, "So has Erin told you she's leaving?" I honestly did NOT see that coming. I was so shocked. I couldn't have asked for a better person to shadow and work with and to be told that was not what I was expecting at all. I am so happy for her because she's taking a position at another place that she really wants. She'll do great and I know she'll love her new job. It's just sad to see her go so abruptly.
But anyways back to the "opportunity" she and Patrick wanted to talk to me about. They want me to be the interim banquet manager for the month of July until they hire a new one!! Esentially I would be doing Erin's job. I couldn't believe it. I was so grateful and flattered that they would even consider me. That is such an honor and would be an incredible learning experience. The thing is I will be taking two summer classes in July as well. I told them I didn't want to get too in over my head with that plus school work, and told them I'd think about it over the weekend.
So when I got home, I was anxious to tell my parents the news. But as soon as I told my mom what they asked, she said, "I don't think that'll work Amanda with your classes and everything." And my dad was like, "Your school work has to come first." Yes, I understand I need to focus on my classes, but this opportunity will be great for the future. And I feel like I can handle both considering the small amount of events in July. Of all people I would've thought my mom would have been a little more supportive of my consideration. She's always saying doors like these that are opened are great opportunities for future success. I guess I was just expecting them to be more enthusiastic about the whole thing. I thought they would be flattered that I was considered too. It just kind of made me upset. I've gotten these little spurts of times I feel like crying this evening. I feel like making the decision would be so much more easier if I had gotten a more positive response from them. I don't know.
But however this situation works out, I am so grateful. I really think this might be God's plan for me - to have given me this opportunity in order for me to learn and grow. I just pray that I make the right decision. I need to consider this too some extent on my own but I have to leave the rest up to Him. I know I need to put my trust and faith in Him. I'm going to think long and hard about it this weekend and send up a few extra prayers. Please pray for me - I'd really appreciate it.
Well I hope everyone has been doing well. Have a great rest of the night. Tomorrow's Friday!! :)

Memorial Day Weekend
I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!!Fun cookouts, good food, and most of all time spent remembering those brave men and women who give today its meaning. I am so thankful for those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to put their lives on the line each day for my freedom. Thank you!!
Well, this weekend has been crazy busy. I've been going none stop so it feels like my four day weekend flew by. Friday I went to Festival in the Park with Jenn and her friend Brad. Rodney Atkins was performing which is really the only performer I wanted to see that was on the schedule this year. We had a great time and I loved the new songs he sang!! Plus, Festival is such a fun atmosphere anyways!!
Saturday I went down the street to babysit the twins I usually babysit over the summers. I've been watching them and their older brother for awhile now and their parents were going to a wedding so I told them I'd watch the kids for the weekend. The kids are pretty good overall so it was easy money for two and a half days. Saturday afternoon though I had a wedding to work so my mom came down and watched the twins and Andrew for about five hours while I was gone. I'm so thankful she did that for me because the wedding was so fun! I loved the people I worked with and there were some sexy military boys attending I could drool over too!!ha!! I got to cut a layer of the cake too. Erin also told me she's a member of the group that puts on Festival in the Park and said I should look into it!! I absolutely love her for teaching me and sharing such great information with me! I think I definitely want to look into that! That'd be awesome!!
Sunday I got up early to get the kids ready. Andrew, the older boy, was going with some of his friends to church and stay with them for the day. I was going with my mom, dad, and the twins to my grandparents' for my cousin Zach's baptism and then a Memorial Day cookout! Andrew had choir practice and we didn't know what time we'd be back so that's why his parents made other plans for him. The twins were great overall. They got a little whiny during church but sat for a good part of the service without making a sound. They really are great kids. After church, we went back for lunch and you would've thought the twins were part of the family. They played so well with all the other kids and all my little cousins loved them.
Today, I got home about 12:30ish from babysitting and had planned on going for a run right then, but the heavens decided to open up so I worked on some homework until it cleared up. I got most of my assignment done but need to finish a few more pieces of it tomorrow. Nothing too exciting today - just relaxing and catching up with my parents. I also saw one of my friends from high school I hadn't seen in awhile which was nice. I love randomly seeing old friends when I least expect it. I can't complain about my weekend. It was great! Unfortunately it's coming to an end and classes start back up tomorrow =/
So with that said, I better get ready for bed so I'll be able to get up in the morning. Hope everyone has a great night and a blessed week ahead.

Catch Up!
Wow - it feels like forever since I've written on here. This past week has been hectic!! Last Monday I started my Econ class at Western which is two nights a week and then yesterday I started my class at Tech. I'd planned on taking an online accounting class as well BUT with such a crazy schedule this summer I decided to drop it. There was so much work involved with that class since it was online, I just didn't want to get stressed over it. Plus, it's not a class I necessarily need to take right at this moment.
Along with classes, I am also shadowing Erin and working at the gym down at Tech a few days a week since I'm there every morning for class. I thought I'd be able to also work at HVCC as well as shadow but Patrick, the clubhouse manager, said he didn't think he'd be able to fit me in since my availability was limited. I'm so thankful I can get some hours in at the gym though!! It really worked out for the best because I don't think I would've had much free time working both jobs, shadowing, and taking classes!hah...but over all I am loving shadowing Erin! I also am interning with another girl who goes to JMU - Kelly. I played softball against her in high school which was cool. I love her! We get along great!
So since I'm not "working" at Hidden Valley, my summer income is coming from the gym.hah! It was so nice to get back down to Blacksburg. I'd already started to miss it - a lot!! But it's definitely different from during regular semesters - campus feels so empty!! I'll be able to get a lot of my reading for my classes done while I'm working at the desk which is a big positive!! Plus - seeing some summer gym goers that are easy on the eyes isn't too bad either.hah! Work is always laid-backed but even more so in the summer - and I'm not complaining one bit!! :) But yea...my class down at Tech I don't think should be all that bad. A PhD student teaches it and the first two classes we've been let out at least half an hour early!hah! The class is really small -- only about 20 people which is nice. Lots of athletes! Not too worried about the it in general.
I don't know about anywhere else, but today the weather was so strage for this area. One minute it was cloudy and pouring down rain and literally the next it was clear and sunny. And it kept going on like that all day. Really weird. But thankfully it stopped in time for me to go on a nice run when I got home this afternoon. I haven't gone on a good run in awhile so it was nice to get out there today. I felt so much better afterwards.
Well I guess I should get off here and start working on some school work. Hope everyone's had a great week so far!!Half-way through tomorrow!! Have a great evening!!

First day of shadowing...
So today was the first day I got to actually shadow the events planner I'll be working with this summer. I sat in on a meeting with Erin and three other women and we talked about a bridal show they are all going to put on in mid-September. It was so exciting! It's not going to be the traditional bridal show, but more so like a cocktail party/girl's night out theme. We talked about the different vendors that were being considered and decided on how the ballroom would be set up. I felt so involved and I loved it! I can tell I'm cut-out for this kind of job. I get such an awesome feeling doing things like I did today and being in that kind of atmosphere. I feel so in my element. (It's definitely an entirely different feeling from the feeling I got after shadowing PTs. I feel so much more excited and positive about what I'm doing.) I called my mom after our meeting today and she told me tonight she could tell in my voice and expression that I loved what I did today and it was a complete 180 from when I shadowed the PTs in January. (For all those who don't know, I went into college with a toss up between physical therapy and events planning. I chose to try PT but after shadowing this winter I found out physical therapy didn't excite me like I tought it would. So I'm now doing events planning. And my first experience so far has been amazing!) I'm looking forward to what this summer has in store for me!
Shadowing took up the first part of my day which was a great start, but unfortunately I had to come back home to work on homework and reading for my summer classes. Yuck!! I don't think my classes will be that bad overall. At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they won't! :)
I hope everyone had a great day!!! Oh and by the way for all you Dancing With the Stars fans...I'm so sad Chad and Cheryl got eliminated tonight. I love them!! ha but I'm sure there's way more important things on people's minds tonight. Well, I guess that's it...not too much to write about today.
Goodnight everyone!!!

Lazy Sunday...
Today was a pretty lazy day -- can't say that I mind considering tomorrow I start summer classes and work. I'm sad I woke up late and missed church this morning. Next week that's definitely NOT happening! I haven't been to Parkway in forever. I miss it -- hopefully they'll have a bible study group I can get involved in for the summer.
But...I did get a head start on some of my reading for one of my summer classes. I took a few online quizzes too! I'm hoping to stay ahead of schedule so I won't be so bogged down with work every day. I hope I can stick with that mind set. I did that for the majority of the afternoon and then just piddled around until dinner. After dinner, my mom and I watched Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. It's been forever since I've watched a full episode of that show and I'm glad I chose tonight's to watch. So many of the episode's for that show are emotional and touching but tonight's was so incredibly inspiring. The special guests on the show were the real-life Touey (?) family--Leanne, Michael, Sean Jr. and Collins. It was about a family whose six-year-old son has spina bifida and the dad was recently diagnosed with ALS. That horrible disease has got to be so so hard and debilitating on not only the one effected by it, but also the family, but somehow this inspirational man found no time to feel sorry for himself and chose not to let ALS destroy the life he still has to live. He has loved football for his whole life and played in college and now coaches a high school team. His family and his players are his life. It was heart-breaking to here him talk about his condition. The disease has already given him a limp and effected his speech. But again, he's accepted the fact that his disease in incurable but said something that is so so true. He said that "I have lou garages disease. So what. It doesn't change me. It may change how I do certain things, but it doesn't change this [tapping at his heart]." I cried A LOT during that episode. To know there is no specific cause or cure for ALS makes me sick to my stomach. Tonight's episode really made me think about doing something to help victims of Lou Garages. Even though I don't know anyone directly effected by it, I've heard about the disease from multiple people who know someone with the disease. It's such a selfish disease. So if any of you fellow bloggers knows of how I can help out, please let me know. I'll be searching on my own too and hopefully I'll find something. Please pray for the Williams family tonight. I know I will.
Well I hope you all enjoyed this post. Maybe this story inspired you to do something to raise awareness for some cause that sparks a fire in your heart. But I'm going to hit the sack soon after ArmyWives goes off. I'm supposed to meet with an events planner tomorrow that I will be shadowing this summer so I better get some rest. I don't want to be dragging on my first day!
Goodnight and have a safe and blessed week!!
